Ground test shows mobile towers emissions in Ludhiana within limits
Ludhiana, March 29, 2017: (By Raju William) The electromagnetic frequency (EMF) emissions being transmitted from mobile towers in Ludhiana is well within permissible limits.
It was revealed after the actual site testing was carried out to measure EMF transmissions here on Wednesday during an awareness programme organised by the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) on Electromagnetic Field (EMF) Emissions and Mobile Towers at Hotel Park Plaza here.
The testing was conducted for BTS at Park Plaza, Feroze Gandhi Market and Novelty City Plaza and the results were shared with the people present at the sites, stating that all towers are safe, substantiated by the low levels of radiation that showed up in the tests.
The average radiation from towers monitored in three locations was 4.9% of the limits set by the DoT which is well within the prescribed limits. In fact, it turned out to be, in most cases, much lower than the prescribed limits in India.
The findings of the testing were shared with senior government officials, participants from Civil society and RWAs during an interactive session of the programme. This is part of a nationwide public outreach campaign to dispel myths about EMF Emissions and quell unfounded fears of citizens through scientific evidence.
Deputy Commissioner, Ludhiana Pardeep Agarwal presided over the function as the chief guest. He said that the call drops and connectivity issues are being faced by all but whenever there is any installation of a mobile tower is met with opposition from public. Such programmes would act as confidence-building measure, he added.
Khushwant Rai, Director, TERM Cell, Punjab delivered the inaugural address and highlighted the importance of mobile connectivity across the state. R P Singhal, DDG TERM, Punjab and Dr. Arun Chougule, Dean & Head of Department of Radiological Physics SMS Medical College, Jaipur were the speakers.
An expert panel comprising of telecom officers and doctors presented the scientific facts clarifying various myths on possible health hazards from mobile tower radiation.
